This addendum contains late breaking information about the latest release of CD-ROM SpeedTools. It replaces or adds to information discussed in the User's Guide.
1. New Skip Track Feature - Using the CD Audio Player application, it is now possible to skip to any audio track on an audio CD without having to repeatedly click the advance track button. This is done by using the number keys on your keyboard. To skip to a given track, you must press two number keys within two seconds of each other for a track change to occur. Single track numbers must be lead with a zero. For example, type 0 then 5 to jump to track 5. Type 1 then 2 to jump to track 12 and so on.
2. Easier Audio Playback Resume - Using the CD Audio Player application, you may now click either the Play OR Pause button to resume playback from a paused audio state.
3. New Disc Format Mounting Control - Many CDs created today are universal and contain data on separate partitions for other computer platforms. Using a key-down sequence, it is now possible to mount and access the data volumes of a CD created for these other platforms. Normally, CD-ROM SpeedTools will mount just the Macintosh or "HFS" partition of a CD. Now with this new mounting feature, you can choose on-the-fly which partition scheme gets loaded to the Macintosh desktop. This feature is useful for accessing PC data files using Macintosh conversion applications and for PC emulator programs like SoftWindows® and VirtualPC® where you need to access entire DOS/Windows® CD volumes. Here's how it's done...
A. Holding down the "Option" key while inserting a CD will mount all non-HFS partitions. These partition formats include: ISO, High Sierra and all other ISO hybrids. Use this method for accessing entire DOS/Windows® CD volumes for PC Emulator programs.
B. Holding down the "Command" key while inserting a CD will mount ALL types of partitions contained on the CD including HFS. This mounting technique is best used for accessing PC data files using a Macintosh application.
C. Inserting a CD without holding down either of the above keys will mount Macintosh/HFS specific partitions only.
NOTE: Make sure to hold down the "Option" key or "Command" key until a disc volume mounts on the desktop.
NOTE: In rare instances, some CD titles distributed for Macintosh were published using an ISO disc format. If a Macintosh compatible CD is inserted, but NO disc icon mounts on the desktop, it is possible that the CD was mastered with this ISO format strategy. This type of CD will require either the "Option" key or the "Command" key to be held down during disc insertion before the data can become accessible.
Feature Tip: The disc format mounting techniques described above can be executed at any time, even while working within a foreground application. To change the mounting technique, drag all mounted CD volumes to the trash (causing the CD to eject) and re-insert the CD using a different mounting procedure from above.
4. New feature allows EnhancedCDs to be mounted as Audio only CDs - You can now mount EnhancedCDs as audio only CDs to allow QuickTime-based audio extraction of tracks contained on these types of discs. To invoke the feature, hold down the "Control" key and insert an EnhancedCD. CD-ROM SpeedTools will then mount it as if it were a standard Audio only CD. To have CD-ROM SpeedTools treat the disc as an EnhancedCD again, eject the CD and reinsert it again as normal.
